Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

At Focus on the Family Singapore Ltd (‘Focus’), we respect the privacy and confidentiality of our constituents’ personal data. We are committed to implementing policies, practices, and processes to safeguard the collection, use and disclosure of the personal data you provide us, in compliance with the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) 2012. 

We have developed this Privacy Policy to assist you in understanding how we collect, use, disclose, process, and retain your personal data with regard to our operations and Website (www.family.org.sg).

2. Personal Data 

The PDPA defines personal data as “data, whether true or not, about an individual who can be identified a) from that data; or b) from that data and other information to which the organisation has or is likely to have access.” 

Some examples of Personal Data that we may collect include: 

  • Your name, NRIC, passport or other identification number, telephone numbers, mailing address, email address, bank account information, credit card information and any other information relating to you which you have provided us in any forms you may have submitted to us, or in other forms of interaction with you;
  • Photos, films, portraits and/or video recordings of you;
  • Your employment history, education background and family details;
  • Information about your usage of and interaction with our websites, emails, including statistics on page views, and traffic to and from our websites.

 

3. Collection of Personal Data

Focus on the Family Singapore collects Personal Data in the following ways:

  • when you enquire or register for our events, programmes, and services; 
  • when you indicate interest to be included to our mailing list/s; 
  • when you interact with our board, committee members, staff, volunteers, or interns (eg, telephone/video calls, emails, letters, or face-to-face meetings); 
  • when you attend any Focus-related events; 
  • when you donate to Focus; 
  • when you register as a volunteer with Focus;
  • when you apply for employment/internship with Focus; 
  • when you submit your Personal Information to us for other specific purposes


Focus on the Family Singapore does not collect personal data without your knowledge. We may ask you to provide some personal information while you are visiting or completing digital forms on our websites. The information collected would be related with the service you request, and your provision of personal data will be taken as your consent for us to use the information.  

Focus on the Family Singapore will not sell, lease, or rent your personal information to any external organisation or individual. However, we may need to disclose personal information for legal reasons, such as a law, regulation, court order, during a legal proceeding or in response to a law enforcement agency request.

Focus on the Family Singapore will not be responsible for relying on inaccurate or incomplete Personal Data arising from you not updating us of any changes in your Personal Data that you had initially provided us with. The failure to provide complete, accurate, true, and correct information may result in our inability to provide you with services you have requested and/or to process the necessary administration. 

4. How We Use Your Personal Data 

We use the Personal Data we have collected about you for one or more of the following purposes: 

Administration (Events, Programmes and Services) 

  • Process payment for products and services 
  • Verify your identity and fulfill requests for orders and services
  • Help improve and develop new products and services 
  • Process registration for our events and/or services 
  • Process applications for rebates, subsidies or financial assistance relating to our events and/or services 
  • Process applications for travel, transport, insurance, or security purposes  
  • Process applications for volunteering at our events and/or services 

Marketing & Communications  

  • Provide promotions and event/programme updates 
  • Process and administer surveys, contests, and promotions 
  • Send out newsletters and/or other relevant information to constituents

5. Disclosure of Your Personal Data

Personal Data that you provide will be protected and kept confidential but, subject to the provisions of any applicable law, may be disclosed for the purposes listed above in Section 4, where applicable, to the following parties: 

  • Our staff, volunteers, interns, board, and committee members 
  • Any judicial, administrative, or regulatory body having authority over Focus 
  • Any regulatory, government or statutory body to comply with applicable laws or regulations or upon their valid request 
  • Banks, CPF (Central Provident Fund) or its agent banks, credit card companies and other financial institutions for the processing of any monies receivable or payable
  • Third party service providers who provide services to Focus e.g. courier services, HR system, email marketing, information technology, data processing and storage, and insurance 
  • Partner voluntary, charitable and non-profit organisations

6. Withdrawal of Consent

If you wish to withdraw consent to any use or disclosure of your Personal Data, as set out in this Policy, kindly submit your request in writing or via email to our Data Protection Officer(s) at the contact details provided below to request for removal of data.

You must be aware, though, of the consequences of your withdrawal of consent, e.g. without your personal contact information we may not be able to inform you of future updates or that the quality of our service may be impacted.  

Focus aims to effect the withdrawal of consent within 10 working days of your notice. 

Please note that withdrawing consent does not affect our right to continue to collect, use and disclose personal data where such collection, use and disclose without consent is permitted or required under applicable laws. 

7. Accessing and Making Correction to Your Personal Data

You may write in to us, based on reasonable grounds, to find out how we have been using or disclosing your personal data. We are obligated under the PDPA to allow you access to your personal data of the past one year, and to make any correction if there is any error or omission.  

Before we accede to your request, we may need to verify your identity by checking your NRIC or other legal identification document. We will try to respond to your request within 30 days. By which time we will give you an estimate of how long it is going to take to retrieve all the relevant data. We will also inform you of a reasonable charge for processing this administrative request.

8. Accuracy of Your Personal Data 

We will take reasonable precautions and verification checks to ensure that the personal data we have collected from you is reasonably accurate, complete, and up to date. From time to time, we will do a verification exercise for you to update us on any changes to your personal data. If you are a constituent or customer, it is important that you update us if there are any changes in your personal information such as your email address, telephone number or mailing address.

9. Protection of Personal Data

We will take the necessary security arrangements to protect your personal data that is under our charge, and control to prevent unauthorised access, collection, use, disclosure, or similar risks. All our employees will take reasonable and appropriate measures to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of your personal data and will only share your data with authorised persons. 

External data intermediaries who process and maintain your personal data on our behalf will be bound by contractual data security arrangements we have with them.

10. Retention of Personal Data

Focus will not retain any of your personal data under our charge or control when it is no longer necessary for any business or legal purposes. The retention periods of personal data are based on statutory or regulatory requirements.  

We will ensure that your personal data that no longer has any business or legal use will be destroyed or disposed of in a secure manner. This applies to both paper documents and electronic data stored in databases. 

11. Transfer of Personal Data

If there is a need for us to transfer your personal data to another country, we will ensure that the standard of data protection in the recipient country is comparable to that of Singapore’s PDPA. If this is not so, we will enter into a contractual agreement with the receiving party to accord similar levels of data protection as that in Singapore. 

Please note that your personal data may be transferred to — and maintained on — computers located outside Singapore where the data protection laws may differ from those in your state, province, country, or other governmental authority. 

If you are located outside Singapore and choose to provide your personal data to us, please note that we transfer the information to Singapore for processing here.

12. Use of Cookies

We use “cookies” to collect aggregated information about users’ activity on our website. Cookies are files with small amount of data, which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a website and stored on your computer’s hard drive. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our Service. 

Focus on the Family Singapore Ltd uses remarketing services to advertise on third party websites to you after you have visited our Service. We, and our third-party vendors, use cookies to inform, optimise and serve ads based on your past visits to our Service. 

13. Third-Party Sites

Our Website may contain links to other sites that are not operated by us. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site. It is important that you review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit. We have no control over, and are unable to assume any responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third-party sites or services. 

14. Updates on Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the policy on this page. Please revisit this page periodically for any changes. Changes to this Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
