Children’s Day Campaign

The digital realm has become an integral part of our lives, including our children’s — offering opportunities for learning, interacting, and entertainment. However, just as digital media use is escalating, so are mental health issues in our youth.

Research has recently shown that youths are increasingly turning to digital media for self-therapy. In light of this, experts are advising parents to be empathetic towards their children’s use of electronic devices and platforms (Channel News Asia, 2023).

Thus, before children are exposed to various devices, apps, platforms at a young age, it is critical to have healthy conversations surrounding digital literacy and for parents to both bond with and guide their children in the digital age.

This Children’s Day, Focus on the Family Singapore aims to encourage the fostering of meaningful parent-child relationships and equip parents to raise digital literate children all while having fun!

A free digital resource, The Wonder Guide, will be available for download, with tips for parents to nurture their parent-child relationship while navigating the digital playground. Download your Wonder Guide at www.family.org.sg/CaptureTheWonder

Additionally, a free mini activity book, What a Wonder! is also available for parents to deepen connections with their child (recommended for 5-9 year olds). It includes:
1.
Identifying old school technology gadgets and learning fun facts about them
2.
Conversation Starters for parent-child to engage in meaningful conversations
3.
Stickers for interactive learning

Campaign Objectives:

  1. Strengthen parent-child relationships through healthy conversations and practices surrounding digital literacy

  2. Encourage families to embrace technology as means for meaningful connection

Charity Golf 2024

128 golfers gathered on 11 July 2023 at Laguna National Golf Resort Club to hit a hole-in-one for families in Singapore at Focus on the Family Singapore’s annual Charity Golf event.

Golf supporters teed off in support of Focus Singapore’s preventative and upstream work to divorce-proof marriages and nurture resilient parent-child connections to raise stronger youth and young adults in our nation.

Besides novelty games, golfers also attended a meaningful post-event appreciation dinner and received affirmation and encouragement to persevere with regard to investing intentional time and effort in their marriage.

Guest-of-Honour, Mr Seah Kian Peng, Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC and Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Social and Family Development, graced the event.

He shared: “I started supporting Focus on the Family Singapore in 2015 and it is heartening to see the good work it has achieved over the years and how the organisation has grown. And this year, we also saw a successful change of guard as new leadership took over.”

“On a personal note, this year marks my 35th wedding anniversary, and like all relationships, it requires a lot of giving and taking. This said, giving is a real blessing.”

Thanks to the generous sponsors who gave willingly, the event raised over $191,000 including corporate sponsorships, individual giving and sale of flights.

This was Focus on the Family Singapore’s eighth Charity Golf Tournament, with Auto Servizio Italia Services (ASI) as its Hole-In-One sponsor.

Managing Director of Auto Servizio Italia Services, Eric Sim, shared, “Auto Servizio Italia’s foundation is strengthened by the timeless principles of family values and serves as the driving force behind every aspect of our company’s mission.

With a sense of pride, we extend our sponsorship to this extraordinary event in partnership with Focus on the Family, aimed at making a positive impact on society, and cultivating our future generations.”

Chairman of Focus on the Family Singapore, Mr Tony Soh, said, “While families are not perfect and family life can be unpredictable and chaotic at times, a loving and nurturing family environment can be a safe sanctuary across life stages and provide many moments of deep joy and holistic richness, even as we navigate through life and its many winding paths.”

He adds, “As Focus Singapore sharpens our strategies and double down on our efforts to strengthen marriages, deepen parent-child relationships and cultivate the next generation of family champions, we are committed to work together with the government and our valued partners to build a brighter future for Singapore.”

Take a swing for Family!

Honour Night is a special event in the FamChamps Camp programme for camp participants to express appreciation to their parents for the irreplaceable role parents play in their lives, through simple and fun facilitator-led games and activities. Parents’ presence at Honour Night will mean so much to the camper as they embark on this journey of understanding the importance of Family.

Honour Night is happening on Thu, 2 Nov 2023. More details to follow.

Honour Night is an intentional time set aside for campers and their parents. It is highly recommended that both parents attend Honour Night together with the camper (i.e. max. 3 persons), and dedicate that time to the camper.

However, we understand if there is a need for one of the parents to attend to younger siblings or other family members. In these circumstances, please ensure that one parent attends the event in full together with the camper.

We have a child-minding programme catered for campers' younger siblings from the age of 3 years old to 12 years old.Campers would need to indicate the attendance of their younger sibling(s) on their individual registration form.

We highly encourage one or both of the camper’s parents to attend the event as it is meant for them to appreciate and honour their parents. If the camper’s parents are unable to attend because of special reasons, we would recommend a guardian or close adult family member to attend in place of parents.

There is no additional cost to attend Honour Night as it is part of the camp programme. All campers will receive the Honour Night materials that are included in the camp fees, whether or not parents attend the event.

Please indicate your commitment to attend Honour Night on the Parental/Guardian Consent Form that will be given to the camper. More details will be provided later.

You may wish to wait till your daughter is older so she will experience the full benefits of the programme.

The recommended maximum age for daughters is 16yo as this event celebrates the important milestone of teen daughters becoming young women.

Research from Institute of Family Studies has shown that there is a unique bond between a father and his daughter — the father-daughter relationship greatly influences a girl’s developing self-image and approach to future romantic relationships.

If you are not a father or are looking for a bonding event with your son, do check out The Select: Mission 1114, a parent-child adventure designed for parent and tween (11-14yo).

There are 10 ring sizes, ranging from 1.60cm to 1.90cm, for you to choose from on the registration form. If the ring does not fit your daughter's finger, you will have the opportunity to do an exchange on the event day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We’re here to help.

Our curriculum is based on universal values that are applicable and essential to helping marriages thrive, regardless of participants’ religious background.

Our participants have shared that they particularly enjoy the interactive and experiential style of learning we offer at our sessions. They also value the practical tips shared which they feel can be readily and easily implemented. Participants also appreciate the opportunities given to them during the sessions to have deep and honest discussions about topics that are not usually raised in usual conversations that couples have prior to marriage.

The shifting of roles in marriage will be addressed in the group marriage preparation programme through activities and discussions. Each couple will be given opportunities to discuss and align expectations that they have towards each other regarding parenting responsibilities, distribution of household chores, management of the household budget and a myriad of other issues that will help them establish a firm foundation in order for their marriage and family to thrive.

To ensure positive workshop dynamics especially during the group discussions and activities, there will be a minimum of 6 couples each workshop, and a maximum of 10.

We do not advise this. The programme is effective only if a couple attends the session together.

There will be no refunds for cancellations or no-shows upon confirmation of registration. Request for transfer of registration to another workshop/date must be communicated via email at least 5 working days before workshop start date.
