Do I need any qualifications to volunteer?
We welcome volunteers from all walks of life. If there are specific roles which require technical knowledge or qualifications we will indicate that in our request. Otherwise, everyone can be a volunteer when they have a keen interest in the organisation and its cause. We encourage new volunteers to keep an open mind and learn the different roles/tasks when interacting with our beneficiaries, staff and other volunteers. In short, stay committed to the cause and enjoy the experience!
What is the minimum age to volunteer?
There is no minimum age in volunteering at
Focus on the Family Singapore
. We encourage family members to volunteer together at our events.
What is the minimum commitment level required by volunteers?
Generally, we accept one-time volunteering. However, we hope that our volunteers can commit on a regular weekly or monthly basis.
Why do I have to go through the application process?
It is for us to get to know our volunteers better and to match their interests to a suitable volunteering opportunity.
Will training be provided for volunteers?
Yes, training will be provided and it varies according to the role/task that you are being assigned to.
I am not sure about my interest areas in volunteering. Can I still be a volunteer?
You may be invited for a brief meeting with our Volunteer Coordinator who will update you about the different volunteering areas that may suit your interests.
I am not a Singaporean resident. Can I still volunteer?
Yes. We welcome volunteers of all nationalities as long as they can commit (time) to the tasks assigned.
I am a foreigner and cannot speak fluent English, am I still able to volunteer?
Yes, we have volunteering roles that do not require spoken English.
If I do not know how to operate a computer, can I still volunteer?
Yes, we have volunteering tasks that that do not require the use of a computer.
Is it possible for my group of friends and myself to volunteer together?
Yes, but it also depends on the tasks or roles assigned. You may indicate your preference if you wish to volunteer together as a group.
Am I able to obtain proof of my attendance or certification for my volunteer hours?
Yes, we provide Values in Action (VIA) records for our student volunteers and certification letter for volunteers when requested.
