Over
100 families reported at The Central on Saturday, June 20, 2009 to
begin their hunt for sofas in downtown Singapore. Sofas were “hidden”
at five heritage sites in downtown Singapore including the Merlion Park
at One Fullerton and the Civil Defence Heritage Gallery. Participating
families braved the scorching heat and followed clues to locate these
sofas to take creative family photos for a chance to win a designer
sofa, a one-night stay at Pan Pacific Singapore and other attractive
prizes. As the event coincided with Father’s Day, participants were
given the opportunity to appreciate their fathers through a special
activity component called “Dads Dare”.
This event was part of National Family Celebrations 2009 and supported by a Youth Development Fund grant from the National Youth Council. Focus
on the Family Singapore collaborated with a group of trainee teachers
from the National Institute of Education as part of their community
volunteerism effort.
"The
most memorable experience was to spend time together, having fun
cracking our brains to hunt for the sofas, and after that sharing ideas
on creating the perfect poses.”
– Nur Iliana Bte Abdul Rahim
"It’s
a good simple hunt…for families with small children… older kids (could)
also participate in guessing the answers to the clues… The most
memorable thing was being able to take a family picture at Singapore
tourist attractions – something that we had not been able to do…All the
staff at the start, end and check points were friendly and helpful.”
