Frequently Asked Questions
- What are the requirements for being a Parenting with Confidence facilitator?
You must have a passion for parenting and desire to help other parents. Training, teaching and facilitation experience will help but is not a requirement. After the training, you are required to conduct at least one Parenting with Confidence workshop a year.
- Do I have to attend the trainings for all the modules?
Only the philosophy training is compulsory for all new facilitators. Other than that, you can choose to be trained in any age module or all modules.
- I am a parent who wants to learn more about parenting skills. Is this training for me?
We recommend that you attend a regular Parenting with Confidence workshop instead as it will be more beneficial for you. This training is meant for those who are interested to conduct the workshop and help other parents.
- What will the facilitator training cover?
Content of the modules, facilitation skills and practicum session.
- Are there any discounts available for the trainings?
A training grant of the fees is available to all staff and volunteers of VWOs affiliated to NCSS. Please apply online at www.ncss.gov.sg at the VWO Corner/eServices. Click here for step-by-step instructions. A spouse rate is available. Please see table below for details.
- What is the VCF Training Grant and who is eligible?
Only staff and volunteers of VWO (Voluntary Welfare Organisations) affiliated to NCSS (National Council of Social Services) are eligible for the VCF training grant. For details, please visit: http://www.ncss.org.sg/vwocorner/vcf_training.asp or check with your organisation for the status and application details.
- What is the spouse rate and who is eligible?
To encourage facilitators to be trained as a husband-wife team, we are offering a spouse rate this year. One spouse attending the training pays the normal rate and the other spouse gets a 50% discount on the age modules training. Spouse rate is not applicable for Philosophy Training and for those applying for VCF grant.
- I am already an accredited Parenting with Confidence facilitator but my spouse is not. Is he/she entitled to the spouse discount?
Yes.
- Who can be my referee?
Preferably someone who has witness you in a training capacity. This person can be your superior, mentor or someone who has worked closely with you. Your referee cannot be an immediate family member.
- Will Focus on the Family help me find participants for the workshops?
Once you have determined the date/time/venue for your workshop, FOTFS will help you publicise through our website and email listings. We will also make available our colour brochures for your promotional use.
- Will Focus on the Family schedule me to do any workshops?
Most of our Parenting with Confidence workshops are initiated/marketed by our facilitators. We do initiate workshops and have requests from organisations to conduct workshops at times. In such cases, we may approach you to conduct the workshops.
- When would the next training be held?
The next Parenting with Confidence Facilitator Training is tentatively scheduled in March/April, 2009.
